Under 15 Kilkenny 41 Dungarvan 19
Kilkenny’s Under 15 age group had a busy week with two games in 4 days. First, an under 14 side hosted Carlow under floodlights in Foulkstown on Wednesday night. The home side played some excellent rugby in the course of recording a convincing win. A dominant display led to tries for open side Aiden McDonald, out half Jake McDonald and a hat trick from No. 8/left wing Daniel O’Connor.
The pick of the scores was the final one scored by relative newcomer Shane Stapleton who took advantage of a lovely pass from centre Jay Leahy and showed great pace to scorch up the right touchline and under the posts.
On Saturday morning, a mixture of Under 14 and 15 players took the coach down to scenic Dungarvan to test themselves against Munster opposition. On a pitch framed on one side by the sea and the other by the Comeragh mountains, both teams provided a very entertaining game of rugby featuring no less than ten tries.
For the away side the scorers were centre David Jordan, the excellent Tom Cuddihy, No. 8 Matthew McWey and rookie second row, the hard running Cian Smith. Star performer on the day was centre Kevin Mullen who defended well, kicked intelligently and scored three excellent tries. Second row Noel Whelan had the distinction of being top tackler in both games but special mention should also go to winger Alex Milchev who put in three crunching hits on his debut.
Anyone born in 1996 or 97, regardless of experience, is welcome at the club any Monday or Wednesday evenings at 6.45pm or to contact coach Noel Devlin on 0872831174 for more information.
