Kilkenny 22-14 Carlow
Kilkenny forwards played really well as a unit even though there were several new faces in the team.

Carlow were at least a head taller in the pack and showed their height advantage in the line-out but Kilkenny were stronger in the scrum and at the breakdown.

Matthew McWey was the outstanding player for Kilkenny in the forwards scoring 3 tries and Sean Moran carried on where he left off last season with a heap of scathing breaks and runs from the backline.

Kilkenny lead 12-0 at the break but Carlow started the better in the second half scoring 2 tries in 5 minutes just after the game restarted. Kilkenny had to dig deep but their class shone through as they scored next with a good try after some excellent support play by Connor Quinlan in the forwards.

It was obvious from the side line that the next score was critical for both teams but Kilkenny proved to be hungrier and manufactured another good try through the forwards to win the match.

This was the first league game and the boys did really well to win it and start the season the same way as they ended it last year.

Next game is a friendly at home to Tullow on Saturday and then next week is the next league game away to New Ross.
