Enniscorthy 15-26 Kilkenny

Kilkenny ladies started their Leinster League campaign with a 26-15 bonus point victory away in Ross Rd.With both coaches agreeing to play 13 a side due to injuries, work and football, players knew it was going to be a lung busting evening.

Kilkenny received the kick off in the 1st half. Straight away the KK Ladies showed there intent by attacking from the start. From a lineout on the KK 22 they attacked the gain line. With offload after offload and after 7 phases of play the ball was flashed out to the backs who showed great handling and running from deep ending up with Susan Battle scoring under the posts. Converted by outhalf Brona Kelly.

From the restart and a great catch KK did what they do best and flashed the ball wide. Recycling the ball time and time again and showing great continuity and after a quick ruck the ball was flashed out wide an ended up with winger Mary Forristal scoring a brilliant team try.Converted by Brona Kelly.

A KK knock from the restart was followed by an onslaught of pressure by Enniscorthy. They pounded the KK line and after some heroic and organised defence KK were awarded a penalty. They duly cleared their lines. 5 minutes later KK attacked from half way. Gain line was broken and the ball moved to the 'Scorty 22. From the ruck Mary Broderick picked up and after a thunderous run scored wide out. There was no stopping the 'enforcer'.The conversion was brilliantly added by Brona Kelly.

On the stroke of half time Kate Hennessy topped of a great personal first half performance with an excellently taken try. 26-0 H/T

Kilkenny started the 2nd half like they finished the 1st half. Putting phase after phase they put huge pressure on 'scorty. To the home team's credit they defended bravely and withstood the constant barrage by the determined KK ladies. The Panthers started getting their hands on the ball more frequently and were creating holes in the KK defence. And after 7 mins our line was breached and 'Scorty scored their first try. Unconverted.

The huge effort from KK in the 1 st half was starting to show and with home advantage 'Scorty started to show some dominance. 2 tries followed and to 'scortys credit they did get the upper hand in the later stages of the 2nd half putting some great forward orientated attacks together.

Full Time KK 26 'Scorty 15.

There were some great KK performances tonight led by the experienced pair Caroline Mahon and Kate Hennessy. We unearthed 2 gems in Cathy Walsh and Niamh Buggy to Head coach Patrick McCorrys delight.

The game wouldn't have gone ahead only for our manager Claire O'Dwyer. Claire retired last year but donned the boots for one last time to make sure we fulfilled the fixture.

KK play Carlow Coyotes at HOME next FRIDAY night at 8.30
