Kilkenny 7 Wicklow 17

Kilkenny suffered an abject defeat at home to Wicklow last Sunday in the South East League. The previous weekend they beat the same opposition in the Leinster League but last Sunday they put in a lack lustre performance and paid the price.

It is possible Kilkenny have their main focus on the big competition and may have experimented somewhat. It is crucial they make up for the slow start and cannot allow for any more slip ups. With a tough schedule ahead the playing panel have to be allowed game time.

The game away to Newbridge next weekend had to be foremost in the mind of Ger McDonald as he prepares the players for a stiff encounter. Supporters should note the game was origionally fixed for Saturday night but the Leinster Branch refused permission and it will now go ahead on Sunday afternoon at the earlier kick off time of 2.30pm. The seconds will kick off at 1.00pm.

On Sunday the first team started impressively and led at the break 7 points to 3. With the wind advantage in the second half Wicklow took control of the game and before the final whistle they had scored two tries and a drop goal to secure victory and the league points.

An interesting fact was the performance of Nigel Daly to the front row which had an immediate impact.

Tickets for the Fancy Dress next Friday night in the club can be purchased from Eddie Sheehan,Benji Lawlor or Langtons
